I got my photos published on www.dailymail.co.uk
As many of you might know Tom Hanks is in Malta together with his daughter Elizabeth Hanks and a great cast. Paul Greengrass, Catherine Keener, Andrea Phillips, Max Martini, Yul Vazquez, Chris Mulkey, Corey Johnson, David Warshofsky, John Magaro, Angus MacInnes, Mark Holden, Terence Anderson and Ian Ralph are all said to be here. Rumour has it that Kevin Spacey and Tom Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson will visit our island in the coming weeks. What fun !
So, why are they here? The film is called ‘Captain Phillips’ and it is based on the true tale of Captain Phillips, the leader of cargo ship Maersk Alabama, who gave himself up as a hostage to pirates in April 2009 in a bid to keep his crew safe. He was rescued by Navy SEALs in a raid that left three of his captives dead and one pirate captured three days later. Some cool videos on youtube explain the whole story.
Film commissioner Peter Busuttil said local ports will be used for certain scenes, but a lot of the filming will take place out at sea on a 155m cargo ship. The water tanks at the Mediterranean Film Studios will also be used. The cast will be in Malta until the end of May, and is then expected to head to Morocco to shoot the beach scenes.
I took these photos at 9am. Tom was shooting a scene were he was walking on-board his ship. Lucky for me, I was on the right side and only 100 metres away. 4 of the 5 photos, I shot with my 500mm Sigma f4.5 prime lens and the wide shot was with a Nikon 18mm. I had all the time I needed because is was a cloudy day and the crew had to wait for the right light to film.
